This week’s sports news and what to watch this weekend

NBA

Playoff Summary
Cleveland Cavaliers blowout the Boston Celtics on the road to even the series 1-1. Most thought the Boston Celtics would sweep or win this series with ease, it’s looking like it could be a fight. Dallas Mavericks tie their series with the Oklahoma City Thunder 1-1. Jalen Brunson and the NY Knicks have a 2-0 series lead over the Indiana Pacers. Finally, the story of the playoffs so far is the Minnesota Timberwolves, led by Anthony Edwards, have a 2-0 series lead against Jokic and the Denver Nuggets. Many consider the Nuggets the best team in the league, but the Wolves just won 2 games in Denver and are heading back home for Game 3.

Nikola Jokic wins MVP of this season. He’s only the 9th player to win MVP three times in a career along with:

  • Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (6)

  • Michael Jordan (5)

  • Bill Russell (5)

  • LeBron James (4)

  • Wilt Chamberlain (4)

  • Nikola Jokic (3)

  • Larry Bird (3)

  • Magic Johnson (3)

  • Moses Malone (3)

NHL

Playoff Summary
Boston Bruins came out firing in Game 1 against the Florida Panthers, but the Panthers gave it right back to them in Game 2 to even the series at 1-1. Vancouver Canucks took game 1 against the Edmonton Oilers and lead the series 1-0. Sweep Alert for Carolina Hurricanes who are down 3-0 in the series to the NY Rangers. Dallas Stars and Colorado Avalanche are tied up a 1-1.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have fired coach Sheldon Keefe after their 3rd first round exit in 4 years.

MLB

Catcher interference calls are more common this season that ever before. Mainly due to teams looking to have their catcher frame or “steal” strikes. While there have been minor injuries this year, Arizona Cardinal’s catcher, Willson Contreras, fractured his arm this week as he interfered with the batter. The MLB sent a memo to clubs to stop moving the catcher forward to steal strikes to reduce injury risk.

The number 1 overall pick in the MLB draft, Paul Skenes, is set to make his MLB debut for the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday. The hype is real for Paul’s 100mph fastball and fans are excited.

Also, in the only strategic move that Pirates have ever made, they waited until Skene’s girlfriend, Livvy Dunn, was finished with finals at LSU to ensure she could be there. Livvy, is a star gymnast at LSU and wildly famous across social media.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

28 year-old and former MLB player Monte Harrison has committed to Arkansas to play College Football. Harrison was a 4-star wide receiver coming out of high school ….. 10 years ago.
