Friday September 15

Just the hits. Your weekend sports recap and preview for the week ahead

Happy Friday ~ We are back after a, longer than expected but still brief, hiatus and JUST IN TIME FOR WEEK 2 OF THE NFL SEASON. The best time of the year is underway and we’re here to ensure you know at least the bare minimum.

MLB

  • Hold up! The MLB is still in full effect too. We’re closing in on the regular season and the Atlanta Braves are the first team to clinch a playoff berth— here’s who’s in and teams in the hunt for a playoff spot

TENNIS

  • ICYMI — US Open: America is back for women’s tennis as Coco Gauff captures her 1st grand slam win and first US Open win over the world No. 1 Aryna Sabenlenka. At 19, she is the youngest woman to win a grand slam since Serena Williams (17). Also, no surprise — The GOAT, Novak Djokovic, wins in an easy 3 set finals match vs. Daniil Medvedev for his 24th grand slam win

NBA

  • The NBA is finally taking steps to limit teams resting star players during the season. I’m sure teams will find a way around this but the point is to make their product better for fans by having star players actually play instead of resting for “load-management” purposes

NFL

  • Aaron Rodgers’ injury is the biggest news out of Week 1 of the NFL season. Dr. Darkness played only a few snaps before taking an awkward hit and being carted off the field. Despite getting the win in OT over the Buffalo Bills, NY Jets fans again have no idea what to think for the rest of the season

  • Here’s the schedule and outlook for Week 2

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

  • The Colorado Buffalos are the hottest and most talked about team in the NCAA right now. After bringing in head coach, Deon Sanders, the Buffs (led by Deon’s son at QB) got a big win in Week 0 and kept the party going in Week 1. They’ve jumped up No. 18

  • The Texas Longhorns could be back! After beating Alabama last week, they’ve jumped Alabama and many others to move into No. 4 in the rankings

  • Heading into Week 3, here are the games which include the AP Top 25

WHAT ELSE TO WATCH THIS WEEKEND

  • Formula 1 - Singapore GP | Sunday @ 8am ET on ESPN/ESPN+
