Just the hits. Your weekend sports recap
Happy Monday — Back to your regular, scheduled week and no holiday weekend in sight. Strap in!
This weekend’s recap:
MLB
Elly De La Cruz leading us into the All-Star break with this ridiculous sequence
Here it all is in one video.
Elly De La Cruz drives in the go-ahead run. Then steals 2nd 3rd and home on 2 pitches.
WHAT?!

The MLB All Star week is underway with the Home Run Derby tonight and the All-Star game tomorrow night | Monday @ 8pm ET on ESPN, Tuesday @ 8pm ET on FOX
The All-Star game and Home Run Derby isn’t all about the honor, players make a little extra cash upon being selected and winning. Most notably, the winner of the Home Run Derby takes home $1 million
MLB Draft - Pittsburgh Pirates grab LSU Pitcher Paul Skenes at the top spot and Washington Nationals take Dylan Crews, LSU OF, at No. 2
GOLF
PGA Tour - John Deere Classic: Sepp Straka wins the John Deere classic after a double-bogey blunder on 18
LIV Tour - London: Cameron Smith wins LIV London by 1 stroke over Patrick Reed. This is his last event until The Open later this month, which he will look to defend after winning last year
NBA
This is not NBA related — besides the fact that this giant sphere of a stadium in Las Vegas is promoting the Summer League. The new spherical arena built in Vegas looks like CGI
The sphere in Las Vegas cost $2.3 billion to build — or about $100k per seat.
They already have concerts and other events lined up, but it feels like they could make a decent amount on external advertising too.
It’s a giant billboard (that goes viral).

TENNIS
Wimbledon - We are in for a treat this morning at Wimbledon with both the No. 1 and No. 2 both in play (N. Djokovic finishing a match from yesterday), and Ons Jabeur, currently No 6. ranked women in the world and a fan favorite from Netflix’s Break Point | Today @ 8am ET on ESPN
OTHER SPORTS
Formula One - British GP: Max Verstappen wins his 6th consecutive race this year, and the 11th for Red Bull Racing. Verstappen has been flat-out dominant. In fact, so dominant that he doesn’t even have to win another race this year to be crowned the champ
Max Verstappen doesn't have to win another race in 2023 to be crowned champion 🏆
If he finished P2 the rest of the way, he would still claim the title 🤯
Dominant.
