Friday July 28th
Just the hits. Your weekend sports recap
Happy Friday — the government just confirmed that aliens are real and we’re just supposed to move on?! I guess just enjoy this little dose of reality while we still have it.
Enjoy —
MLB
The trade deadline is August 1 — and there’s been a few big name moves so far. The LA Dodgers traded Noah Syndergaard to the Cleveland Guardians, and everyone expected the LA Angles to trade Shohei Ohtani, but they seem to be holding on him for now
Sal Frelick for the Milwaukee Brewers had a crazy MLB debut on Monday. The 23-year-old out of Boston University showing on both sides of the field
@573baseball Sal Frelick really made it look easy 😂 #Brewers #SalFrelick #MLB #Debut
GOLF
PGA TOUR - The Open Championship: Brian Harman won The Open last weekend, and his first major, in dominant fashion. Jason Day, John Rahm and others made a push but didn’t come close as Harman secures victory by 6 strokes at 13 under par
The conversation around Brian Harman was the amount of “club waggles” he has before each shot. Hard to say if it’s excessive or not as it’s not breaking any rules — decide for yourself

NBA
Bronny James, son of LeBron James, was hospitalized on Monday after suffering cardiac arrest during a training session at a USC workout. He was released from the hospital yesterday and is in stable condition
The Boston Celtics just signed Jaylen Brown for the first $300+ million contract in history — his record won’t last long apparently. Some of the league’s top stars are set to follow suit later this year. Players to keep an eye on: Giannis Antetokounmpo MIL, Jason Tatum BOS, Joel Embiid PHI, Luka Doncic DAL, Nikola Jokic DEN
NFL
D.J. Hernandez, older brother of convicted murderer (and now deceased) Aaron Hernandez, was arrested for allegedly planning a school shooting. Authorities were alerted when he did not show up for a court hearing and instead visited the campuses of UConn, where he played football and Brown University, where he was a quarterbacks coach in 2010-2011
Quarterbacks get paid: Justin Herbert LAC 5 years $262.5 million becomes the highest paid player in the NFL — though not for long as Joe Burrow is expected to get more once his contract is finalized
NHL
Pittsburgh Penguins and Carolina Hurricanes are among the front-runners to land the veteran defenseman, Erik Karlsson. Either team would likely need a third team involved as Karlsson has a large cap hit
