Monday August 7

Just the hits. Your weekend sports recap and preview for the week ahead

Monday morning is back and the only thing keeping us going is the return of football on the horizon. Hope you can make it through another week and we’ll see you on Friday morning.

MLB

  • YEAH! Baseball fight! YEAH!

  • Speaking of fights; Babe Ruth punching an umpire would have probably broken the internet

  • Tough look here for the NY Yankee’s Giancarlo Stanton. Are the Yankees trying to tank the rest of this season? If so, you’d think they could do a better job at trying to hide it

GOLF

  • PGA Tour - Wyndham Championship: Lucas Glover wins the last regular season event of the year and cashes $1.3 million in prize money. He also moves to 49th in the FedEx Cup standings, locking his spot along with the rest of the world’s Top 70 in next week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship

  • Justin Thomas was this close to a birdie on the 18th and the 70th spot in the FedEx Cup standings

  • LIV Tour - Greenbriar: Bryson DeChambeau cards a 58 in his final round to record his first LIV victory

NFL

  • New Orlean Saint’s RB, Alvin Kamara, suspended for three games this season after last year’s felony battery charges. He will practice with the team and participate in the preseason games

  • This story really has nothing to do with the Indianapolis Colts’ contract talks with Jonathan Taylor, but it’s pretty funny timing given the situation

NHL

  • The Pittsburgh Penguins land Erik Karlsson from the San Jose Sharks as part of a three-way trade with the Montreal Canadiens. This is a massive move for the Pens to land the leagues top defenseman of last year; Karlsson won the Norris Trophy last year that is given to leagues top defensive player

OTHER SPORTS

  • Celebrity Boxing - Jake Paul proves he can still hang with some of the best fighters in the world (as long as it’s boxing and not their actual fighting style). Paul takes the victory over mixed martial artist Nate Diaz, in split decision
