This weekend’s sports news and what to watch this week

Weekend Recap

NHL
- The Florida Panthers took two games from the Boston Bruins this weekend. Game 4 on Friday was a 6-2 routing, but the biggest news what this nasty cheap shot from Sam Bennett on Bruin’s captain, Brad Marchand. Marchand would not play in Game 4 on Sunday, but the Bruins set the tone early with this massive hit on Sam Reinhart. Florida is in command of the series 3-1 and the Bruins find themselves facing elimination in Game 5 in South Florida on Tuesday.
- The Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks exchange blows this weekend, each taking a game in the series. Friday’s game required OT that the Oilers were able to secure. Last night’s game was decided by the same 4-3 score, but Vancouver stole one back to make it a 2-1 series.
- Carolina Hurricanes avoid the sweep on Saturday and hand the NY Rangers their first loss of the playoffs. They still face elimination tonight back in NY for Game 5.
- Dallas Stars win their second in a row on Saturday to take a 2-1 series lead over the Colorado Avalanche. They’ll be looking to steal another one in Denver tonight for Game 4.

NBA
- The Boston Celtics respond in Game 3 to regain the series lead at 2-1 over Cleveland Cavaliers. Game 4 is tonight in Cleveland and we’ll have a chance to see if their Game 2 win was a fluke or if they can actually give the Celtics a run for their money.
- The Dallas Mavericks get back-to-back wins and go up 2-1 over the Oklahoma City Thunder in the series. They are in a good spot heading into Game 4 in Dallas tonight.
- After going down 0-2, the Indiana Pacers have tied the series with the NY Knicks at 2-2. Being that both wins came at home in Indianapolis, it could be good news for the Knicks with home court advantage in the series.
- Here come the champs. The Denver Nuggets have responded and tie the series with the Minnesota Timberwolves at 2-2 after being down 0-2. They also own home court advantage and will be in Denver for Game 5, although every away team has won in this series.

PGA Tour
- Wells Fargo Championship: Everything is right in the world when Rory McIlroy is winning golf tournaments. He put on an all-time performance in the final round on Sunday. After being 3 strokes behind the leader, Xander Schauffele, heading in, Rory went 8 under in 8 straight holes and won by 5 strokes (-17). He could have won by more if he didn’t double-bogey the 18th hole.
- PGA Championship: It’s time for the second major of the season, coming to you from Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky. Three of the world’s best golfers are coming off of wins in their last start. 1) The new father, Scottie Scheffler, who won the RBC Heritage in April. Brooks Keopka won his last LIV start at LIV Singapore. And Rory, who hasn’t looked this solid in close to a decade.

MLB
The first overall draft prospect, Paul Skenes, shines in his major league debut. With a fastball over 100 mph, and a nasty sinker, it looks like he’s going to be a problem for MLB hitters.
